Welcome to the October 3rd edition of The Homeschool Mother’s Journal at NextGen Homeschool!
This past week turned into a field trip week for our homeschool: Not intentionally, it just worked out that the two-day BC Tours (Biblically Correct) Worldview Camp we took part in and the Colorado Ballet student performance of La Sylphide took place in the same week. We toured the Colorado School of Mines Geology Museum, Dinosaur Ridge and the Denver Museum of Nature & Science in two action-packed days. We squeezed so much hands-on learning into a short time, both our feet and minds were a little exhausted — especially mine! (Note to self: Don’t wear sandals on hiking field trips.)
However, it was a great reminder of several reasons why we absolutely love homeschooling. We have the freedom to design our homeschool days around activities, events and experiences that enhance and affirm what we’re learning when we hit the books. Plus, we can give our children exposure to truth about our world in a way that allows them to think critically for themselves — without being force-fed the latest illogical theories and outright fiction that support someone else’s agenda. Lastly, we can enjoy the arts in a way that helps put history in context and be reminded of the beautiful tools of expression God gave us when He made us in His image.
How about you: Have you taken any interesting field trips with your children this year? What are some of your favorite ways to integrate the arts and hands-on learning into your homeschooling activities?
